Graveside service for JoAnna Bentley, 95, of Nacogdoches, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Martinsville Cemetery. Mrs. Bentley died on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, in Nacogdoches. She was born on October 15, 1923, in Dallas, Texas. JoAnna was raised in Lufkin, where she graduated from high school. She then enrolled in Stephen F. Austin State University where she attained her Master of Education degree. During her tenure at SFASU, she was an original member of Chi Omega/Pine Burr Sorority. After graduation, she began her career and taught for over 32 years at several Texas ISD’s, including Nacogdoches ISD. She met and married Garth Bentley and the two spent 60 wonderful years together. They added two beautiful girls to complete their family of 4. Joanna was loving and had a heart of gold, which led her to be an outstanding teacher and adored by her students. She proudly guided many young minds in the way of being an adult and helped them to learn the small, yet essential skills to help them succeed. Her friends and family were of utmost importance and she always made time to spend with them. Yet another gift Joanna was blessed with was her beautiful singing voice. She loved singing for events at First Baptist Nacogdoches/Longview, where she was a member. Joanna was also a devoted member of many clubs and organization in her community. She will always be remembered for her kindness, outgoing spirit, compassion and most of all, her love of those closest to her.
