Lester S. Stutzman, of Milford, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Crestview Care Center in Milford at the age of 96 years, 3 months and 28 days. He was born on a farm near Shickley in Fillmore County, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children to Sanford and Lizzie (Khuns) Stutzman. Lester was baptized at West Fairview Mennonite Church where he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. As a young boy he attended Walnut Creek Country School District #16 near Beaver Crossing. On February 11, 1932, Lester was united in marriage to Velma Irene Martin at the family home during a snowstorm. To this union four children, Richard, Dorothy, Donald and an infant son, were born. Together they made their home on a farm near Beaver Crossing where Lester farmed until the mid 1960's. They then moved to Goehner and Lester operated a road maintainer for Seward County until he retired at 70. In retirement, he continued to enjoy raising a large garden including popcorn and sweetcorn, until 1999 when they moved to Milford and made their home at Linden Village. Lester's health began to fail and he moved to Crestview Care Center in May of 2005. Although he was a perfectionist when it came to straight rows in the field or washing a car, including the underside, Lester enjoyed giving and receiving hugs and telling others he loved them, especially his family members. He had a spiritual interest in all his children. Lester was a long-time member of West Fairview Mennonite Church and later became a member of Bellwood Mennonite Church in Milford. Lester is survived by his wife of 73 years, Velma Stutzman, Milford, son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Thelma Stutzman, Beaver Crossing, daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Paul Stutzman, Wood River, daughter-in-law, Judy Stutzman, Beaver Crossing, 10 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, son, Donald, grand daughter, Janelle, brother, Bert, sisters, Jemiah Burkey, Cassie Schweitzer, Amanda Stutzman, and twin sisters, Iva Miller and Ida Roth. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, December 31, 2005, at Bellwood Mennonite Church with Rev. Orlan Koehn officiating. Interment in Milford Mennonite Church. Memorials have been established to Bellwood Mennonite Church or directed in care of the family. Pallbearers are grandsons, Ernie, Gordon, Mike, Brad, Craig, Tom and Kirk Stutzman.
