Delbert "Bert" Prudhomme, 85, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 3, 2016. He was met by our Lord and Savior in heaven, and is now reunited with his loving wife of 64 years, Maurine. A funeral service will be held at his home church, Holy Trinity, on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11:30, preceded by a Rosary at 11:00. Father Michael Goodyear will be The Celebrant. Funeral Arrangements are being made by Cappadona Funeral home. Bert was born on July 21, 1930 in Duluth, MN to his parents, Clyde and Tess (Rush) and his siblings, Clyde and Florence (Blavet). After he graduated from High School in Duluth, he joined the United States Air Force. He and Maurine were then married and started their family that would eventually include six sons, thirteen grandchildren, their spouses; and seven great-grandchildren. After leaving the Air Force, he started his career at Gilfillan where he continued his work on radar systems for the Air Force as a civilian. His work took the family on a terrific journey filled with the excitement of living abroad in Africa and Europe. Bert thrived on the adventure and experience of living abroad and would also call Canada and Greenland home during his career. His family has long loved his storytelling of this time in their lives. Bert was a family man. There were many camping trips and outdoor adventures. Bert loved hockey and was always involved with the boys' teams. While living in Torrance, CA in the 60's and 70's, Bert was the president of the Greater L.A. Minor Hockey Association. Bert spent much of his free time at his workbench building and designing solutions to problems of all kinds. He made additions to homes, helped with remodels and even rebuilt engines. He enjoyed working on his sons' boat at Lake Powell. He was the quintessential perfectionist. Often he would redesign a project until he got it "just right". Bert and Maurine moved to Colorado Springs in 1977. Bert continued working for Litton until he retired in 1994. Bert and Maurine were blessed to spend their 22 years of retirement enjoying more adventures, and exploring new places in their motorhome, then eventually spending winters in Surprise, AZ . Bert was a devoted husband and father. He was the finest example of honor, integrity, loyalty and hard work. The characteristics he illustrated live on through the generations by his example. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to woundedwarriorproject.org.
