Lilly is a daughter of John Rowley and Emma James. The family lived in Nephi until the persecution of the family (because John had several wives) became so great that John was advised by the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to take his family to northern Mexico. It was in Mexico that Lilly married Robert Chestnut Beecroft on April 14, 1894 in Colonia Pacheco in the state of Chihuahua. While living in Pacheco, two children were born: Nello Robert in 1895 and Emma in 1898. In March 1898 the family moved to Colonia Oaxaca, Sonora, Mexico. While there two more children were born: Lilly Mae in 1899 and Ellen in 1902. While they were in Oaxaco, a flood came down the Bavispe River, washed away 16 homes and took the roof off the Beecrofts' new home. After Lilly died in 1904, Robert moved back to Colonia Pacheco with his young family. The children were taken in by other family members and Robert continued his freighting business.
