Graveside services for Mattie Jane Pheonix, 88 of Slocum will be at Strong Memorial Park with Rev. Wesley Veazey officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Mrs. Pheonix was born to Tom Craig Gilmore and Thoradelle Pierce Gilmore. She graduated from Slocum High School and worked in the clerical field in Houston for over 35 years. She was retired from Brown & Root. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Troy Gerald Gilmore; a sister, Peggy Jean Gilmore Adams; a son-in-law, Steven Douglas Sparks and her beloved dog, Cena. She is survived by her husband of 69 years and 10 months, Kenneth E. Pheonix ; two daughters, Kaye Sparks and Dorthea Prusik (Ed); three grandchildren, Mark Aron Hayes (Ashley), Kandice Guerrero and Justin Sparks; four great grandchildren, Kenneth and Haley Hayes, Jakob Guerrero and Hunter Sparks & Mom Christine; a brother, Roy Burl Gilmore and a sister, Cynthia Ann Gorski and other extended family. She is also survived by two special friends, Alex Landry and Britney Haley. (Palestine Herald Press 12/08/2018)
