SOURCE: Betty Jo Moeller bjmolr@aol Melvin Lee I (1994) "Texanna was a professional trapper and won many awards for the number and quality of furs she had to sell. We have been told that she was full blood Cherokee Indian." (but this hasn't been proven, on paper, as yet) 1995 Feb. Found that Farmer is her maiden name not her married name. In her obituary it lists her sister, Mrs. Maude Mills of Pineville and a brother, Bob Farmer, of Jonesville. Alfred D. Anderson (May 11, 1995): "I am writing you about your grandparents, I am a nephew of Anna Farmer Lee. My mother was her sister, her name was Ethal, she passed away when I was 16 months old. Everyone called her Aunt Anna, she wore a flower of some kind in her hair all the time. There are several elders still around that knew them. They could tell you probably everything you want to know. Anna, the older one, ran Mike's Ferry in Converse, Louisiana." Martha Hawk (Feb. 1995) "I met Texanna one time during my marriage to Texanna's grandson, W.T. Lee. Texanna had dark hair and "red" skin, and she talked "funny". I didn't know the language Texanna spoke, it could possibly have been cajun or French. When Texanna went out to trap for their dinner meals, no one was allowed to go with her. Possibly because they might have scared the critters away. She was an excellent cook, but no matter what it was, you never asked her what the meal consisted of, because you would never want to know. Texanna was also a "medicine' woman. She could cure most anything with her special medicine's. One time a woman came to the door saying her husband was bad sick. Texanna went with the woman to her home. Everyone was told to stay out of the house. When Texanna emerged several days later, the man was well, and he had been on his death bed. She would never tell anyone her secrets. Texanna said that her cure's would be passed down to her eldest daughter, but the eldest daughter died as a teenager. Whether her cure's ever got passed on, I never knew." Delores Mahfouz (Dec. 1995) "Anna was a serious person, she could not read or write and she didn't wear shoes, they were saved for special occasions. She did play the harmonica and wore a flower in her hair." Della Farmer (1996) (Della was in her 90's at this time) "Aunt Anna could play the violin, she and some of her siblings played, at the home place, down at the old Farmer Lake. The Farmers came to Louisiana from Atlanta, Georgia." On her death certificate the birth state is listed as Tennessee. According to her certificate of death, Texanna had only lived inDeSoto Parish, Louisiana for 6 weeks. She died of Hypertension and diabetes. J. L. Lee was the informant. The death certificate also states she died at her home, Route 3, Mansfield, Louisiana (she was living with her daughter, Golee.) Massingill Funeral Home is now Drewett's Funeral Home in Mansfield,Louisiana. Cassell Cemetery is located about 9 1/2 miles SW of Converse,Louisiana. After about 5 miles W on Louisiana Route #174, turn left and go 4 1/2 miles. Inscription: Our Mother Anna Lee Beloved Wife Of J.Y. Lee Aug. 1, 1868 Jan. 12, 1949 Gone But Not Forgotten Mrs. Anna F.
