Bio
Doris Marie Burris, 93, of Smithdale, MS, passed away on November 13, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 9 AM until services at 11 AM at the Mars Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Joel Williams will officiate and burial will be in the Mars Hill Cemetery. Doris was born on July 8, 1925 in Amite County, MS. She is the daughter of the late Levi and Bessie McGehee Scott. Doris worked for the Kellwood and Air Cruisers Company and was a member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Bobby Scott, Carl Scott and Jimmy Scott; two sisters, Rita Scott and Christine Quin. She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Terry and Dianna Burris of Smithdale, Tommy and Brenda Burris of Smithdale and Benji and Allene Burris of Prairieville, LA; four daughters, Rita and Bill Shelton of Summerville, SC., Carol and Denny Duck of Liberty, MS., Rebecca Andrew of Winter Park, FL., and Melissa Burris of Smithdale; one sister, Idelle Jackson of Louisville, KY., fourteen grandchildren, twenty nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren with numerous nieces and nephews; also special friends, Donna Scott, Gary Scott and Lillie Perry; her care-givers, Debra Lowe and Shirley Anderson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Compassionate Care Hospice at 208 Hwy 51 S. Brookhaven, MS 39601
