Mary Ann Wright was born on the fourth day of November in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and Forty-four. (1844) Near Greenville, Meriwether Co., Georgia. She was the daughter of George Washington Wright and Eliza Jane Gresham Wright. Mr. James S. Wyche and Mary A. Wright were married on Thursday, the sixteenth day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and sixty-six. (1866) in Meriwether Co., Georgia. They were the parents of twelve children: Eliza, Willie Mattie, George, Mary Adeline, Elizabeth Agathy, William Henry, Rosa Nevada, Helena Gresham, Ola, Olin, Effie and an infant. Mrs. Mary Ann Wyche, Consort of James S. Wyche, departed this life on Wednesday the ninth of May in the year of our Lord (1888). Age 43 years, 6 months, and 5 days. Her burial was at the Flat Rock, Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Meriwether Co., Georgia. Death Notices from The Meriwether County Vindicator, Volume 16 - Volume 20, December 9, 1887 - December 16, 1892 WYCHE, Mrs. Mary Ann, wife of Mr. J. H. Wyche, was taken ill on the night of the 6th and died on the 9th at 4:45 P.M.; she resided near Oakland and was a daughter of the late George W. Wright; survived by seven daughters and one son, she was buried last Thursday at Flat Rock church above Greenville in sight of her childhood home; Vol. 16, No. 24, May 18, 1888. In a Memorial in this issue; born Nov. 14th, 1844 in Greenville, her family moving to Griffin when she was a child, but returned to Meriwether and settled near Flat Rock church, where she grew to womanhood; while in her teens the war broke out and her father entered the army in 1863; during his service her mother died on the 9th of Dec., 1863, leaving Mary in charge of her eight younger brothers and sisters; in July 1864 her father was stricken in camp in Atlanta and died in Griffin before reaching home, on the 9th of July, leaving 19-year old Mary in full charge of the family; after the war her uncle, Dr. Jacob B. Wright aided her in her duties; her two brothers grew to manhood, moved to Texas and died some time since; three of her sisters married and remained here, the other three moving to Texas with Dr. Wright; in August 1869, Mary joined the Baptist Church at Flat Rock, marrying Mr. J. S. Wyche the following week, and continued to care for her three younger sisters until their removal to Texas; Vol. 16, No. 26, May 31, 1888
