J. Ross Turner was born on March 3, 1921 in Socorro Co., New Mexico to James Malcolm and Montie Lee Turner. He grew up in Gran Quivera, NM, with his brothers, Loyd and Giles and his sisters, Marie and Mary. He graduated from Olton, Texas High School in 1939. During WWII he was a member of flight group VF-82, flying combat missions in F6F fighter planes from the deck of the USS Bennington. Following the war, he met Colleen Felkins in Oklahoma City, and they married on November 5, 1946. During fifty-four years of marriage, Ross and Colleen enjoyed many activities together. They enjoyed travel, sports, ballroom dancing, family (especially grandchildren), bridge, and outdoor activities to mention only a few. Ross retired from his own building and remodeling contractor business several years ago. Ross was a long time member of Faith Tabernacle Church. He was active in the Young Men's and the Sundowners' Clubs. An avid bridge and game player for the last several years, Ross played dominos daily with good friends at the Warr Acres Community Center. A wonderful father and grandfather, he took every opportunity to participate in the activities of his son and grandchildren. He coached several little league teams and attended virtually every sporting event, program, banquet, or other activity involving his son or grandchildren. Ross is predeceased by his wife, Colleen Turner, sister-in-law Evelyn Turner, and brother Alva. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Lisa Turner of Oklahoma City, OK, and his grandchildren, Kathryn and Jackson. He is also survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, Loyd Turner of Milwaukie, OR and Giles and Lee Turner of Fritch, TX, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Bill Boyd of Farmington, NM and Mary and Roderick Stewart of Seattle, WA. Ross passed from this life on May 16, 2007 following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at the Rose Hill Mausoleum Chapel, 6001 N. Grand Blvd., OKC.
