Bio

James Walter Young, age 89, of Grand Prairie, passed away on July 28, 2017 after a brief illness. J.W. was born in Levelland, Texas on March 18, 1928 to James and Bernice Young. He lived most of his childhood in Athens, Texas and attended Athens High School. At age 17, he enlisted in the Marines and served 4 years stationed in Panama. He married Margaret Shaver on December 30, 1949 and moved to Grand Prairie to begin a 39 year career as a buyer at LTV. They raised their family and lived in Grand Prairie until the time of his death. J.W. served as deacon for many years at Dalworth/ Westridge Baptist Church in Grand Prairie and later at First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Margaret; daughter, Donna Parrent; parents James and Bernice Young; sister, Berniece Pickle.
