Mr. Haines died Oct. 31, 2009, at his home in Van. Teddy Lea Haines was born July 24, 1928, in Seminole, Okla., to the late Leander Lewis Haines and Leona Kinman Haines. Ted graduated from Van High School in 1947 and shortly thereafter joined the Army and was stationed in Bremerton, Wash., training with an anti-aircraft battalion. Upon his discharge from the service he came back to Van and married Wanda L. Veazey on May 4, 1956. He continued his career with Pure Oil Company and Unocal, where he worked as a drilling supervisor for over 40 years and in over 30 countries. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leonard Haines; and sister, Donna Haines Petty. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Haines of Van; son, Todd Haines and wife Rhonda of Van; daughter, Teresa Swartz and husband, Charles of Austin; brother, D.J. Haines and wife Jill of Pittsburg; sister, Thelma Pease of Grand Junction, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Kristi Phillips, Tommy Clague, Jessica Chavez and R. Wayne Clague. Pallbearers will be Looter Wright, Gene Turner, Johnny Peden, Charles Veazey, Johnny Veazey and Matt Petty. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm, Sunday at the funeral home.
