ORD — Roman J. Lech, 87, of Ord passed away on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rev. John Kakkuzhiyil will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Roman John Lech, the son of John Frank and Gertrude Ann (Shotkoski) Lech, was born Aug. 19, 1931, in Elyria. Roman graduated in 1949 from Ord High School. Roman was united in marriage to Regina Mary Markey on Aug. 5, 1961, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Omaha. To this union five children were born: James, JoNon “Joni,” Susan “Tricia,” Anne and Sabrina. Roman and Mary lived in Elyria where they owned and operated a fertilizer business, Elyria Farm Supply, and farmed. Roman spent his years working alongside his son in the fields and driving trucks. Roman was a farmer to the end, from his lifetime of row crops to his last crop of tomatoes and watermelons. Roman was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading several newspapers, listening to markets, and watching weather forecasts. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Jim and Kris Lech of Elyria, Joni Kusek and Kevin Lieb of St. Paul, Tricia and Doug Lawrence of San Francisco, and Anne and Mark Johnson of Potter; grandchildren, Brandon Kusek, Randy Kusek, Katrina Kusek, Kassidy (Craig) Wachter, Sam Lech, Luke Johnson, Jake Johnson, Mattie Johnson, Jordan Lawrence and Dylan Lieb; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Josie Wachter; a sister and brothers-in-law Lillian and Dennis Maciejewski and Darrell Roberts; brothers and sisters-in-law, Everett Lech and Pat Van Winkle, Leonard Lech, Marvin and Nancy Lech, Rolland and Eileen Lech; and his in-laws, Everett and Pat Markey, Patricia Nilius, Lauretta and Tom Bruce, and Linda Lazer and Tom Cleveland; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; his daughter, Sabrina Ann; a son-in-law, Charles Kusek; and a sister, Sylvia (Lech) Roberts.
