She was the daughter of Benjamin James and Mary Fisher Morgan. She married Charles Rodeback 18 Oct 1838 in Pennsylvania. Jane was born in Newlin, Pennsylvania. She married Charles Rodeback and gave birth to her first two children in the same town in which she was born. I May, 1841, they sold their farm and moved to Nauvoo, Illinois to be with the Saints and help in the construction of the temple. Her family was driven from their comfortable home in Nauvoo, away from the place where two of her children were buried. They moved first to Winter Quarters, then to Council Bulffs, and again to Kanesville, Iowa. In 1851, Jane was left alone while her husband drove a team and wagons to Utah for David Wilkins. He took up two lots in Salt Lake City and returned to Kanesville for his family. In the spring of 1852, they crossed the Plains and arrived in Salt Lake City. After their arrival into the Valley, they continued to endure hardships. Sometimes, their food consisted of weeds and greens they could gather, roots, and sego lily bulbs. They endured the grasshopper plague and the "Move South" when Johnston led a United States army to the Salt Lake Valley. After they returned to Salt Lake City, they were called to settle an area in Summit County which was later named Hoytsville. They built a home from the stone they found in the area. When they had trouble with the Indians, they had to move to the fort for protection. In 1875, Charles was called to serve a mission and Jane was left to care for their home and property. Their son lived close by, so she was not completely alone. Jane was a valiant Pioneer who faced many trials in her life, but gained strength from her faith in the gospel. Together they had the following eight children: Mary Ann, Lorenzo Barnes, Sarah Jane, Jospehine Eleanor, Rebecca Helen, Frances Isabella, Charles Levant, and David Morgan Rodeback.
