Bio
Elias John (E. J.) Strmiska, age 87, peacefully departed from this earth Sept. 15, 2018. E. J. was born in Granger. He attended school in Circleville and graduated from Granger High School. He was a farmer and carpenter, he enjoyed time with family, hunting and fishing, and was well known as one of the best fast-pitch pitchers in the area. E. J. was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cecila (Martinka) Strmiska; sister, Mildred Strmiska Batla; and brother, Norbert Strmiska. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Leah Rae Batla Strmiska; his children Debra Cavanaugh and husband Jimmy, Greg Strmiska and wife Christi, John Strmiska and friend Jackie McCoy, Becky Pekar and husband Lenard, and Mona Krieg and husband Kevin; nine grandchildren, Steven Strmiska and wife Emily, Keith Strmiska, Garrett Pekar, Corey Strmiska and wife Megan, Caitlin Cavanaugh Scruggs and husband Kory, Lauren Pekar and fiancée Jason Fellows, Kole Krieg, and Blake and Benjamin Strmiska; and four great-grandchildren Hudson and Blakely Strmiska, Collette Pekar and Emmalyn Fellows; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers will be Steven Strmiska, Keith Strmiska, Garrett Pekar, Corey Strmiska, Kory Scruggs, Kole Krieg, Joey Strmiska, Dan Bristow, Sr., Dan Bristow, Jr. and Dave Bristow. The family would like to thank the S.P.J.S.T. Nursing Home and Resolution Hospice for their loving care in his final days. Visitation and rosary will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Taylor. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger. Interment immediately following at the Calvary Cemetery in Granger.
