Dallas Morning News 21 Mar 1948 Services Held At Mesquite For Butcher Funeral services were held at the First Christain Church in Mesquite Saturday for Lonnie McDaniel, 60, Mesquite butcher. Burial was in Long Creek Cemetery. McDaniel was born in Dallas County in 1887, He attended school in the Edwards Community and later at Mesquite. A Dallas fireman for number of years, he left the department in 1927 to return to a farm near Mesquite. Fifteen years ago, McDaniel began a slaughtering business that grew from a barrel of scalding water and a T Ford truck to a modern slaughtering house. He served as butcher for Mesquite Frosted Foods since it opened in 1939. McDaniel was an elder and a deacon of the First Christain Church. He was a member of the Mesquite school board eleven years. Surviving are his wife; a son, John McDaniel, Mesquite; three daughters, Mrs. Meadford Webb and Mrs. Charles Branton of Mesquite, and Mrs. Walter Duff, Sterling City; five grandchildren; four brothers, Hugh McDaniel and Lolie McDaniel, both of Dallas, Lawrence McDaniel, Seagoville, Virgil McDaniel, Mesquite; three sisters, Mrs. F. F. Cooper, Mrs. R. A. Read and Mrs. Margaret Dorris, all of Dallas.
