Lynn Duane Nitz, 70, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, August 30, 2018, at his home in Columbus. Lynn Duane Nitz was born November 27, 1947, in Oakland, Nebraska, to Vernon and Loretta (Malena) Nitz. At the age of five, the family moved to Columbus, Nebraska. Lynn graduated from Columbus High School and on June 24, 1967, entered the United States Navy. He went to boot camp in Great Lakes. He spent a year and half on Guam as Jet Engine and Test Mechanic and then spent another year and half on the USS Valley Forge LPH-8 as a Flight Deck and Handler Deck Director. He was honorably discharged on October 1, 1970. On July 12, 1974, Lynn was united in marriage to Pamela Hake at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. He worked for Kush Manufacturing for 30 years, and then began working for Duo-Lift Manufacturing, until his retirement in 2010. He enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR, dirt track racing, bowling, collecting wooden nickels and truck coin banks, going to antique shops, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He was a member of the American Legion. Lynn is survived by: Wife – Pam NItz of Columbus, NE Son – Jeff (Nikki) Nitz of Columbus, NE Daughter – Kris (Steve) Udey of Osceola, NE Grandchildren Katleigh Spale, Jared NItz, Lauryn Nitz, Koleton Udey, and Kamdyn Udey Brother – Gene (Cheri) Nitz of Ruidoso, NM Cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews Lynn was preceded in death by: Parents – Vernon and Loretta Nitz Parents-in-law – Helmuth and Lietha Hake Nephews – Todd Schlender and Dain Nitz Aunts & Uncles The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 10:30 AM, at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by The American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time, all at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the wishes of the family.
