Bio

Shirley passed from this earth on Aug. 24,2018. She was born in Madill, OK on July 18, 1938, as the eldest child of 14 children born to JT and Mozelle Beck. She often told stories of caring for her younger siblings while growing up. She had a special relationship with each of them and held fond memories of their times together. She loved beautiful things and took great pride in her home and welcomed family and friends to come and visit or even stay for a while. She loved to cook and entertain and was well known in her family for her cooking skills especially her roast, pinto beans and potato salad. If you left, her table hungry then you just didn't stay long enough. The family often gathered at her house for the holidays, and she enjoyed that very much. Throughout her life she was a caretaker of others and spent time working as a private sitter to help others remain in their homes for as long as possible. She owned and managed a trucking company with her late husband Morris until his passing in 1990. She enjoyed the adventure of making yearly trips to west Texas for Morris to work during grain harvest season. She married her husband Gary on March 3, 1998, in McKinney, TX. They enjoyed going to visit family together and they loved going to the truck stop to drink coffee and visit with the other "regulars". In a pinch she was known to help Gary in his plumbing business. She is preceded in death by her parents JT and Mozelle Beck, two brothers Ronnie and Dale Beck, one sister Sue Burk and a daughter Sharon McCormies. She is survived by her husband, three sons, one daughter, two stepdaughters, two stepsons, five brothers, six sisters, 18 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10:30AM Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at the Van Alstyne Cemetery, in Van Alstyne, TX. Family will receive friends Monday, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Scoggins Funeral Home, 637 W. Van Alstyne, Pkwy. Van Alstyne, TX.
