Bio

Joe J. Rychlik, age 78, of Sealy, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018, in El Campo, TX. Joe was born March 29, 1940 in Sugar Land, TX to Frank and Mary Dubec Rychlik. Born into a family of twelve, Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, a sister and a granddaughter, Kristina Murray. Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Henrietta Wetz Rychlik. They brought into this world 6 children—5 daughters and 1 son. Daughters, Rosemary Litvik (Oscar) of East Bernard, Bernadette Murray of Katy, Diane Resendez (Manuel) of Sealy, Melinda Witte (Gerry) of Wallis, Marie Drabek (Tony) of Richardson, and son, Joe F. Rychlik (Tawana) of Bellville. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In his youth, Joe was fond of farming and cattle. As a young man living in the Sugar Land area, Joe was happiest being around cattle. He worked as a ranch hand at the R.E. (Bob) Smith Ranch and often showed cattle at the stock shows in Houston and Fort Worth. The stories he could tell of his early years as a young ranch hand brought a sense of pride to his demeanor and the crooked smile that followed his stories let you know how happy he was at what he did. As years passed, a family came along and Joe worked hard to feed his large family. He worked in machine shops and later became a heavy equipment mechanic for a large road construction company. He was a wizard at being a mechanic and his talent led him to his hobby and passion of repairing old John Deere tractors. After retiring, he and his bride, Henrietta, spent many hours sitting around the camp fire in New Ulm, attending local parish bazaars and spending time telling stories of his youth to his children. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Immaculate Conception Church where in his younger years he was an usher and part of the team of men that BBQ'd for the parish bazaar. The family would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft Senior Living, the staff at Eagle Lake Nursing Home, and the staff at Garden Villa for their care and attention. Special thanks go to Valerie Cheatham, who compassionately cared for his medical needs and to Houston Hospice for caring for him and the family during the critical hours. All services will be held Tues., August 21, 2018, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 Fourth St., Sealy, TX, with Rev. Thuy Nguyen officiating accompanied by Deacon Billy Bolf (cousin), Deacon Robert Kent, Deacon Jerome Losack, and Deacon David Valdez. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, rosary recital at 10:30 AM, funeral mass at 11:00 AM, followed by graveside services being held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Sealy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery Fund, Sealy, TX. Funeral services are under the direction of Knesek Funeral Home in Sealy.
