No gravesite could be found. Burial information was obtained from death certificate. Memorial set by Deborah A. Spanel in grave of Fred and Annie May Sles Pratka.
The family history is that Joseph was an orphan found and raised by a family in Czechoslovakia. He immigrated in 1889 or 1890 and settled near Welcome, Austin Co., Texas. He had a close family member, Emil Joseph Sles, born 19 Jan 1895, perhaps a member of his adoptive family, who always seemed to live near him. On 3 Nov 1897 Joseph married Alzbeta Bednar (buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Latium, Washington Co., Texas) in Washington Co., Texas, and they had four children, Frances, Annie, Mary and Willie before she died with their fifth child in 1909. He remarried to Marie Vajt on 15 Feb 1912 in Washington Co., Texas, and she died before 1920 without bearing him any children. He moved his family to Ganado, Jackson Co., Texas, where Emil Sles and his wife, Libbie nee Skarpa are living with her family, sometime after the 1920 U. S. Census was taken. He died of a self-inflicted wound on 17 Mar 1932 and was buried near the Assumption cemetery according to family members. No grave or headstone could be found. Emil Sles was the informant on his death certificate. The name Sles was Anglicized to Sless in successive generations.
