Tillie Ann Haedge, age 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 9, 2018, in Eagle Lake. Tillie was born August 31, 1929 in Sealy, Texas to Frank and Mary Hajdik Jez. She was the youngest of four children, brothers, Frank and Willie, and sister, Mary, who have all preceded her in death. Tillie grew up and attended school in Frydek. She married Alfred Haedge on October 28, 1950 and settled in East Bernard. Alfred and Tillie were blessed with seven children. Widowed at the age of 42, Tillie devoted her life to raising and providing for her children. To this end, she worked at several jobs over the years. Most notably she worked as a salesclerk at Otto's Dry Goods where she was known for her friendly disposition and exceptional mental math skills. Those mental math skills were valuable in Tillie's favorite pastime, playing dominoes. Even as she aged and her health declined, she remained a sharp and competitive domino player. Another favorite pastime was canning pickles, a tradition which she proudly taught to the next generation. "Grandma Tillie's pickles" are a treasured family favorite. Tillie was a sweet lady who will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to know her. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Patricia Baca and Bart, Janet Stasney and Kenneth, Cindy Gertson and Danny, Mary Minks and Robert, Robert Haedge and Karen, Becky Kovar and Brian, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Sliva and Ronnie. Seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren lovingly called her Grandma Tillie. Along with her parents, siblings and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Al Haedge. Many people have helped care for Tillie these last years. The family would like to thank Wanda Dickerson, the staff at Elmcroft Senior Living, and the staff at Eagle Lake Nursing Home for their care and attention. Special thanks go to Valerie Cheatham who compassionately took care of her medical needs. Visitation will be Monday, August 13, 2018, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a parish rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross, with the Rev. Donald Ruppert officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Frydek at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Mathew Kessler officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Holy Cross Parish or the charity of your choice.
