Bio

HARDIN ----Margaret A. Atkins, 90, early-day Hardin area resident, passed away in the Big Horn Memorial Hospital Saturday, Oct 26, 1991 following an extended illness. She was born May 11, 1901, in Billings, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Walker. She was raised in the Billings area and received her schooling at various schools in Yellowstone County. Margaret worked at the Billings Laundry from 1919 through 1925, and moved with her family to Hardin in 1926. She began work for the Old Savoy Hotel and Cafe. She married T. Harry Atkins in Hardin on Aug. 8, 1928, and the couple made their home on the family farm west of Hardin until moving to Hardin in 1931. Her husband worked for the Big Horn Co. road department. He died in 1965. Margaret worked for Bob Barker's Rexall Drug for several years, the Roy Chambers Grocery Store and later Chambers Clothing Store until her retirement in 1962. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hardin. She loved to crochet do fancy handwork and bake cookies for her family and friends. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Thelma R. Hyde of Hardin and Mrs. Ruth Savidge of Broadus; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Thomas Hastings officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery with the arrangements entrusted to Bullis Mortuary of Hardin. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hardin; or the Big Horn County Historical Society.. The Billings Gazette 10-28-1991
