Sarah Tobey Gossen, 95, of Lake Charles passed away at 2:40 PM on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 in a local hospital. Mrs. Gossen was born on June 28, 1923 in Maxie, LA and was a graduate of Rayne High School. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles. During the World War II effort she was a “Rosie the Riveter”. While raising a family of six, she worked as a secretary for St. Louis High School and also for the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Mrs. Gossen also volunteered her time with the Literacy Council teaching adults to read. She was a devoted member of St. Margaret Catholic Church where she belonged to the Altar Society and the Come Lord Jesus Group. Mrs. Gossen was a devout Catholic who attended Mass on a daily basis for most of her life. She and her beloved husband of 65 years, Richard Gossen, Sr., enjoyed traveling in their motor home. She was a devoted grandmother, affectionately known as “Mamaw”. Those left to cherish her memory are children, Richard Gossen, Jr. (Lynette) of Georgetown, TX, Debbie Gossen Bell (Jeff) of Lake Charles, Dean Gossen (Rebecca) of Spring, TX, Della Gossen Vaughan (Sterling) of Lake Charles, and Mary Ann Gossen Taylor (Jonathan) of Richmond, VA; sister, Gloria Dahmer Mier of Florida; twelve grandchildren, Bill and Michael Gossen, Kirk and Craig Raymond, Travis, Grace, and Tobey Gossen, Gretchen Leeves, Sarah Ann and Megan Vaughan, and Yvonne and Elise Taylor; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Norine Moore; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jeanne Judice Gossen; and a grandson, Clint Nicholas Raymond. A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.
