Bio
On the evening of October 13, 2024, Lloyd L. Brannon Jr. (Sarge) passed away at Guardian Angels Assisted Living Facility #1, comforted by his daughter. Lloyd was born in Laurel, MS on June 21, 1935. Lloyd served in the US Army for 21 years and retired as a Sargent First Class. After retiring, he moved back to Laurel and worked as a ROTC instructor at R.H. Watkins High School. He later operated the feed mill at Beard's Farm and Feed before becoming a store clerk at Old South Farm and Supply. Lloyd was an Eagle Scout, holder of three Purple Hearts, and a Bronzed Star with the V designation for heroism in connection with the Vietnam War. Lloyd was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church and an avid study of the Word of God. He was preceded in death, by his wife of 53 years, Helen Brannon, his daughter, Mary Brannon, his parents, Lloyd and Nedra Brannon, and his brother James Brannon. He is survived by his three sons: Robert, Jon (Elise), and Thomas; his daughter, Belinda McLain (Terry); his grandchildren, Jessica Slade (Donald), Dakota Brannon, Katara Brannon, Heather Jordan (Jeremy), Lacey Thrasher (Jacob), and Emily McLain. He was the proud great-grandparent of 5 great-grandchildren. Lloyd is also survived by his sister in Arizona, Nedra (Rodney) Hartman. Pallbearers will be Donald Slade, Dakota Brannon, Jeremy Jordan, Jacob Thrasher, Kory Warren, and Mike Yates. Visitation will be Sunday, October 20th beginning at 12 noon at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow immediately afterwards at Lake Park Hills Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Guardian Angels Assisted Care Facility for the wonderful care provided during his illness and the comfort and compassion offered to the family members during his last days.
