Bio

Esther Kuhn, age 89, passed away June 26, 2018 at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Nebraska. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. July 11 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa. Esther Lorena Kuhn was born August 19, 1928 to Burger and Ethel (Timmons) Benson in Hordville, Nebraska. She grew up and graduated from Hordville High School in 1945. After graduation, she attended Nebraska Central College and obtained at temporary teaching certificate and taught for two years at Hampton, Neb. and then taught for two years at Marquette Schools. Esther and Roy Kuhn were married July 16, 1949. Esther taught for one year at Round Valley near Sargent, Neb. and then one year at a rural school near St. Paul, Neb. before moving to Lincoln, Neb. In 1954, Roy and Esther moved to Sheldon, Iowa where she taught during the school year and each summer took graduate courses at Westmar College in Le Mars. In 1959, the couple moved to Rock Rapids and Esther taught third grade for one year, until their daughter, Tamara Lu was born. Esther then transitioned to a full time homemaker. Their second daughter, Kristin Sue, was also born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1979, Roy and Esther moved to Ames where she kept busy with a Welcome Wagon business, hostess at the Cardinal Room in the Memorial Union, serving lunches at Northwood Elementary School, and volunteering as a for 4-H leader. Esther was a Sunday School teacher, lead confirmation classes, Bethel Bible classes, and was a poll worker on election days. Esther is survived by her daughters, Tami Kuhn of Ames and Kristi Kuhn of Papillion; her brother, Floyd (JoAn) Benson of Waukee; and her sister, Agnes (Bernie) Andresen of Grand Island, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; eight siblings. Adams Funeral Home in Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
