Born John Jelen. Married Katherine Korus on November 29, 1905 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Krakow, rural Nance County, Nebr. ______________________ The Columbus Daily Telegram , March 13, 1924, 1924, p. 1, col. 4 Yelli Dies – John Yelli, 40, Fullerton, Neb., farmer, died at St. Mary's hospital last night as the result of strychnine, which it is believed he took in a fit of despondency sometime late Tuesday night. Yelli, who was taken ill suddenly during the night while staying at the Charles Kula [ Korus } home, 3103 Eighth street, was rushed to the hospital and later a vial of strychnine was found under the bed he had occupied. He admitted having drank the contents of the vial. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the grave in the Catholic cemetery, Father Dennis officiating. His wife, a daughter of Charles Korus of Columbus, died the latter part of January. ___ The Columbus Daily Telegram , March 15, 1924, p. 2, col. 3 Funeral Yesterday – The funeral of John Yelli, Fullerton, Neb., farmer who, despondent because of the recent death of his wife, took strychnine, was held from the home of his father-in-law, Chas. Korus, in south Columbus, yesterday, the burial service being conducted by Rev. Fr. Dennis Czech, of St. Anthony's church, in the parish cemetery here. Yelli's aged mother, Mrs. Katherine Yelli, of Fullerton; his brother, Walter, of Holt county, and nearly 20 auto loads of relatives and friends from vicinity of Fullerton, Tarnov and Genoa, were here to attend the funeral. Yelli took the fatal dose of poison on the second anniversary of the death of his father. His seven children, the eldest 15 years and the youngest 3 months, will be taken into the homes of sympathetic relatives.
