Dau. of: Abel & Jincy (Williams) Cain. Wife of: JOHN MARION CARTER. Married Fannin Co., TX Sept 8, 1870. Six Children born to this union, Wm. Armon, Lucilla May, James Henry, Frances Aldora, Jancie Elizabeth & Alvin Arnold Carter. She lived 98 yrs, 1 mo. & 25 days. A Christian every step of the way! "GRANNY CARTER", as she was known to her grandchildren, BUT "FANNIE" to her husband & friends, spoke often about her early life in MS & told of happenings to her family during the Civil War. She said she came to TX from MS, when she was 13 yrs. old, "walking all the way", while a brother who was sickly rode in their ox cart. To calculate the time the Jincy Cain family made their move, Granny was born 24 July 1851, she would have turned 13 on 24 July 1864. The family arrived in TX between 24 July 1864 and 24 July 1865. She stated: "My family ferried across the Mississippi River, We had a good ferryman". This in answer to her grandson Claude Hennesseee ( s/o Frances Aldora (Carter)& Wm. Patrick Hennessee) when as a young curious boy, Claude had asked her, "Granny, how did you ever cross that big old Mississippi River?" Note: John Marion Carter is buried Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Tarrant Co., TX.
