Service No. 38058256, KIA World War II Mother: Carrie J. Phillips (or Phelps) (b. circa 1891, Georgia) Published in the Athens Review July 7, 1949 The body of T/5 Clifford E. Black, Ben Wheeler man who was killed during world War II, is being returned to his next of kin, Henry H. Black of Ben Wheeler, the Department of the Army announced. His is among remains of 3,333 Americans originally interred in temporary military cemeteries in France, Holland and Belgium being returned aboard the Army transport, Carroll Victory, for reburial in the U.S. The Army stated that each next-of-kin was notified in advance of the arrival of the vessel, and would be notified again after arrival of the remains at the regional Distribution Centers of the American Graves Registration Service.
