Fern Louise Bartusiak, 90, of Ogallala, Nebraska died August 1, 2013 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, Nebraska. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell First Congregational United Church of Christ. Fern was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Paul and Ella (Fisher) Russell. Fern married John V. Bartusiak on October 9, 1940 in Broken Bow, Nebraska. They lived in Burwell, Nebraska. On April 20, 1943 one daughter, Karen, was born just three weeks before John entered the United States Army. They lived in Burwell where John was a partner in the Burwell and Ericson Livestock Markets. For many years Fern baked cakes and pies for the Ericson Livestock Market Café. She also baked and sold cakes in the Burwell Community. Fern also enjoyed providing her garden vegetables and homemade lap quilts to residents in the Burwell Nursing Home and Park View Plaza. They moved to Ogallala, Nebraska in 1998 to be near their family. John died on March 10, 2002. Fern enjoyed baking , gardening, quilting, antique glassware collecting and doing canvas oil painting. Fern is survived by her daughter, Karen and Sam M. Nein of Ogallala, Nebraska. A granddaughter, Lisa and Scott Jeffers of Ogallala, Nebraska. A grandson, Sam B. Nein of Tampa, Florida. Six greatgrandchildren, Brittany & Charlie Hannema of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Christopher Jeffers of Columbus, Mississippi, Johnathan Jeffers of Ogallala, Nebraska, Avery Nein, Georgia Nein and Allie Nein all of Orlando, Florida. A brother, Glenn and Joanie Gibson of Omaha, Nebraska and two sisters, Shirley Lidgett of Omaha, Nebraska and Betty Lea Starr of Banning, California.
