Esther M. Tarnick, 85, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial is being held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus, 1565 18th Ave. Visitation is being held Tuesday, May 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the Church and continues from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the church. A 7 p.m. vigil follows Tuesday's visitation hours. Burial is being held at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Esther was born August 28, 1932, in Genoa to Pete and Tessie (Prososki) Borowiak. She attended Krakow Catholic Parish grade school in rural Genoa and graduated from Genoa High School in 1950. On April 21, 1951, she married Leonard L. Tarnick at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Krakow, and they were married 61 years. The couple farmed near Fullerton until moving to Columbus in 1956. Esther was a member of the Krakow Immaculate Conception Sodality. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Esther was employed by the Shotgun News, Pawnee Scout and retired from Daleishay Electronics after more than 20 years of service. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Parish, St. Bonaventure Ladies of the Lord, Catholic Daughters, and Perpetual Adoration. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family, cared about her friends and neighbors, was proud of her Polish heritage, enjoyed listening to polka music, playing bingo, pitch and enjoyed watching sporting events. Left behind to treasure her memory is her son, Tim (Pati) Tarnick of Columbus, daughter Mary (Doug) Carrig of Omaha, daughter Chris Tarnick of Omaha, son Jim Tarnick of Papillion, grandchildren Kari (Gerit) Schell of Lincoln, Chad (Lindsay) Perraton Tarnick of Phoenix; Ryan (Jami) Tarnick of Lincoln, Dawn Carrig Tieken of Denver; Michelle Carrig of Dallas; David Carrig of Omaha, Daniel Carrig of Denver;Great-grandchildren Sophia and Harrison Schell; Keating and Mclane Tarnick; Palmer and Monroe Tarnick; Joey and Johnny Tieken, sister-in-law Elizabeth Nowak, Shawnee Mission, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Tarnick on Oct. 8, 2012, parents Pete and Tessie Borowiak, brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Loyola Borowiak, parents-in-law Joseph and Mary (Cuba) Tarnick, sisters-in-law Helen Swertzic, Mae Jarecke, Clara Gedroez, Emma Robak, Loretta Zagozda, Evelyn Hyjek, Rose Urzendowski and Elizabeth Tarnick, and brothers-in-law Edmund, Alfons, John and Louis Tarnick.
