Bio

Fort Bend Herald, May 18, 2018: Raymond Edward Mican was born on October 7, 1939 in Wharton, Texas. He was the fourth and youngest child to parents Henry and Christine Duyka Mican. He attended Hungerford School and graduated from East Bernard High School in 1958. Raymond married his wife, Gloria Vitek on May 11, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frydek, Texas. They celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary. They made their home in Rosenberg, Texas and were blessed with four children – Karen, Richard, Catherine, and Mark. Raymond worked for the United States Post Office for many years. Raymond also served as a member of the Army National Guard. Throughout Raymond’s life he had many hobbies. They included fishing, woodworking, stamp making, beekeeping, making stain glass crafts, and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren watching them play little league and high school sports. Raymond was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, father-in-law, brother, uncle and friend. Raymond was a member of Holy Rosary Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Fort Bend Czech Heritage Society and a social member of KJZT. He volunteered for numerous fundraisers and made many wonderful friends along the way. Raymond leaves behind his wife, Gloria; sons, Richard Mican and wife, Melinda; Mark Mican and daughters, Karen Riley and husband, Stephen, Catherine Barta and husband, Ronald. Grandchildren: Richard Clayton Mican and wife, Emily, Kelsey Barta and fiancé, Nathan Powell, Dalton Mican and friend Katie McKee, Eric Riley, Brian Barta and fiancé, Katie Kubes, Timothy Mican, Lauren Riley, Jackson Barta, and Kara Riley. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg with Father William D. Bartniski officiating.
