MAT COOK DIES AT BROKEN BOW James Madison "Mat" Cook, 62, a resident of McCurtain county for the past 33 years, died at his Broken Bow home at 7 p. m. Monday. He had been ill since April. Born in Miller County, Ark., he first moved to Broken Bow in 1912 and was superintendent of the Dierks mill there until 1924. He then moved to Idabel as dealer for the Sinclair company, and later moved back to Broken Bow as Sinclair dealer there. He was a member of the Methodist church. The passing of Cook removes one of our most beloved and outstanding citizens, He was known throughout this section for his honesty in business, loyalty to his friends, a devoted husband, active and devoted to his church and a kind and loving father. Survivors are his widow; one son, Elbert Cook, De Queen; one daughter, Mrs. William R. White, Durant; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. Tuesday at the Broken Bow Methodist church with Rev. R. T. Blackburn officiating. Interment was in Denison cemetery, Idabel, under direction of Wilkerson funeral home of De Queen. Bearers were J. M. Craig, Tom Finney, A. E. Warmack, Clarence Lane, Idabel; B. E. Lambert, and C. D. Dodson, De Queen. McCurtain Gazette Wednesday, June 20, 1945
