Albert M. “Merv” Hansen, 89 of Grand Island, died Friday, April 13, 2018 in Kearney, Nebraska. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island with the Rev. Edgar Schambach officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Elmwood Cemetery, St. Paul, Nebraska. Visitation hours will be 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2017 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. Albert Mervin Hansen was born February 7, 1929 on the family farm in Howard County, Nebraska the son of Albert M. & Stella (Frederiksen) Hansen. He attended country school, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1947. Upon graduation he furthered his education an Accounting School in Omaha, Nebraska for one year. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Mae Jepson, October 10, 1948. He was employed by the Department of Interior as a land classifier. He entered the United States Army and upon his discharge worked for International Harvester Company in the accounting department and later as branch accountant, Farm Credit System in Newton, Iowa and Holdrege, Nebraska as branch manager. While in Holdrege he was a Real Estate Broker Appraiser and bought into his brothers Agency in St. Paul., Nebraska for 12 years. He retired to Grand Island and worked as a Fire & Liability Loss Prevention agent and also did some adjusting for Federal Credit Union. He was a member of the Lutheran churches in Cushing, Newton, Iowa, Holdrege, St. Paul and Grand Island. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Bonnie of Kearney, Nebraska, three sons & daughters-in-law, Ted & Deb (Nelson) Hansen of Kearney, NE, David Hansen of Grand Island, Derrin & Vicki (Harris) Hansen of Bellevue, NE, one daughter, Teresa & Rod Rozanek of Lincoln, NE, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two brothers, Lyle Hansen & Harlan Hansen both of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, two brothers, and one sister.
