NACOGDOCHES - Services for Dr. Sam W. Gandy, 92, Nacogdoches, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors with Randy Harshbarger officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Dr. Gandy died April 8, 2007, in Nacogdoches.He was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Apple Springs to William and Enna Gandy. He was a graduate of Lufkin High School and Stephen F. Austin State College. He attended Baylor College of Dentistry, graduating in 1939, and opened a dental practice in Nacogdoches in 1939. He left his practice to serve as captain in the Army during World War II in Germany and the Aleutian Islands. Following the war, he returned to Nacogdoches and practiced dentistry until he retired in 1992 at the age of 78. He was a member of Stallings Drive Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Tannie Frances Ivy Gandy, on May 25, 2006. Survivors include son, Dr. William Gandy, Nacogdoches; sister, Albertine Gandy, Apple Springs; and two granddaughters. Pallbearers are Dr. Malcolm Rector, Dr. Vyrne Shofner, Dr. Larry Hancock, Bill Jobe, Pat Pruitt, Geoff Wayne and Greg Geter. Honorary pallbearers are J.D. Harkrider and McNeil Grimes.
