Charlene F. Hykel, 82, of Elm Mott, passed away early on Good Friday morning, April 6, 2007 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Isidore Rozycki officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Charlene was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, to the late Robert Lacey Boone and Myrtle Virginia (Cook) Hogue. She graduated from Palestine High School and then went on to attend a business college in Houston. She married Martin Royster Pickett after he returned from the service in 1944. After his death, she married Cyril Methodius Hykel on April 7, 1956 in West. She worked as a credit manager for Hurricane Steel Industries for over 13 years until her retirement in 1985. She also worked as an accountant for a Ford Dealership in Palestine and Lacy-Boone Interiors. Charlene loved spending time with her grandchildren and dog "CoCo". She enjoyed traveling, driving, artwork, painting, drawing, playing cards and dominoes and visiting with all her friends. She was a member of B.P.O.E. Elk Lodge #166, V.F.W. Post #4819 Ladies Auxiliary of West and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellmead. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Martin Pickett; second husband, Cyril Hykel, on October 10, 1990; and five sisters. Survivors include sons, Robert Pickett and wife, Mary, of Marble Falls, Donald Pickett and wife, Stephanie and Richard Cyril Hykel and wife, Belinda, all of Houston, James S. Hykel and wife, Sheryl, of Weatherford; daughter, Donna M. Jarnigan and husband, Randy, of Houston; grandchildren, Amy Fraser and husband, Robert, Lisa Pickett, Kristine Pickett, Dawson Pickett, Kobi Pickett, Katherine Hykel, Alek Hykel, Jennifer Bolden and husband, Lynnel and Mandi Watson; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Wyatt Fraser, Dallyn Pickett, Joshua Watson, Jubilee and Hosanna Bolden; sister, Dolly D.
