KEARNEY — Joel A. Bean, 51, of Kearney died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at CHI Health Good Samaritan. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church with the Revs. Rick and Michelle Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team, Kearney American Legion Post 52 and Kearney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. Joel was born March 12, 1966, in Cozad to Jim and Pat (Coons) Bean. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1984. Joel attended Kearney State College and Central Community College-Grand Island, earning a nursing degree. He enlisted in the Nebraska National Guard in 1987 and served in Iraq. At the time of his death, he was a first sergeant with the 1075th Transportation Company out of North Platte. Joel married Stacy Gorr on May 16, 1998, in Kearney. Joel had worked as a registered nurse for the last 11 years and was working at Kearney Clinic at the time of his death. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Kearney American Legion Post 52 and Kearney Elks Lodge 984. Joel enjoyed golfing, reading and history. Joel loved spending time with his family and attending his sons’ sporting events and activities. Joel is survived by his wife, Stacy Bean of Kearney; sons, Caleb and Joshua Bean of Kearney; mother, Pat Gage of Aurora; sister, Christa Cervantes and her husband, Kennelly, of Independence, Ky.; in-laws, Dennis and Barb Gorr of Scottsbluff; and brother-in-law, Mathew Gorr and his wife, Jessica, of Longmont, Colo. Joel was preceded in death by his father, Jim Bean.
