Lydia Marie Dozler passed away peacefully on the morning of the winter solstice, December 21, 2017. She was born in Galveston, Texas on February 28, 1934, the first child of John Leonard Becker and Marie Sophie Becker. She attended Milby High School in Houston, graduating early. Always adventurous, she attended Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska, where she earned her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was in Omaha, where she lived the young singles life until she met her husband, John Joseph Dozler, who happened to live on the floor below in the same apartment building. Lydia taught school for over 40 years, many of those as a 3rdgrade teacher at Franklin Elementary School in Houston, Texas. While teaching school and with daughters still at home, she earned a Masters Degree in Education from University of Houston-Clear Lake. She was an enthusiastic science and math teacher and helped train and pioneer computer technology in Houston schools. Lydia loved genealogy research, gardening, helping others, and most of all, outings and meals with family and friends. Active in many clubs and organizations, she participated as a leader or member of the Clear Creek Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Hugs Group, the German Society, Friends of the Library, Bay Area Genealogy, Fun Bunch, among others. Lydia is preceded in death by her husband, John Dozler; her sister, Elsa Louise Becker; and grandson, Danial Joseph Kinney. Lydia is survived by her brother John Leonard Becker, her daughters Patricia Ann Dozler and Pamela Marie Dozler and husband Stephen Philip Bayer; grandchildren: Alana Ali and husband Muhammad Ali, Delia Dozler and Ian McGuire, Christopher Kinney, and Melissa Kinney; Ellen Bashaw and her husband, Brandon Bashaw, Max Bayer, Leo Bayer and his wife, Miku Nishiyama, and Albert Bayer; great-grandchildren: Raja Waleed, Raja Aaryan, and Liyana Ali, Lydia and Emmett Bashaw. Lydia Marie Dozler, also known as Lydia Becker Dozler, is often referred to by friends and family as a great person with immense positive energy. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, December 26, 2017, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Niday Funeral Home Beamer Chapel.
