They settled at Brenham, and later moved to Williamson County. On December 28, 1885 he married Marie (Mary) Stepan from Bastrop, Texas. Ceremony was performed by J. Baker Justice of the Peace. In 1886 he and his wife moved to Bell County, settling near Seaton. In 1891, they bought 134 acres of heavy timbered land at $10 and acre, paying $150 in cash. The land was cleared of timber and paid off through years of hard labor when roads were poor, neighbors were few, and Oeanaville, six miles distance, was the nearest post office. He was instrumental in helping many new settlers become home owners and was an influential citizen in the eastern part of the county for many years. Three and a half years ago he was stricken with paralysis (approximately 1927). He had been a resident of Bell County for 45 years and had been in the mercantile business at Seaton for a number of years. Several years ago he moved to Temple when his health failed. On April 21, 1903, Joe Simek on his way into Temple, found a child on the side of the road. He brought the child to the proper authorities but no one claimed him . Joe and his wife Mary adopted the child, naming him Josef James Simek Jr. On October 25, 1903 the child was christened at Seaton, Texas by Reverand Jindrich Juren. His sponsors were Karl (Charles) and Rosalie Simek-brother and sister-in-law of Joe Simek Sr. He leaves his wife, Marie (Mary) Stepan Simek, one son, Joe Simek Jr., one brother Charles Simek of Red Ranger, and on sister Mrs. Jan Wentrcek of Granger.
