HUGHES SPRINGS - Mass of Christian burial for Joan H. Wyland Hopkins, 87, of Hughes Springs, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Daingerfield, with Father Ambrose Chinnappa and Father Gavin Vaverek officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of the Pines Cemetery of Daingerfield, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home. Mrs. Hopkins died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at a Daingerfield nursing home. She was born December 22, 1919, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, to Robert Wyland and Cecilia Eiden Wyland. She attended Portage County Wisconsin schools and later graduated from Hughes Springs High School in the Class of 1937. She married Frank Hopkins on January 5, 1939, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson. They were among the founding members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in 1948. She served as the first president of the Altar Society and was the parish historian for many years. Mrs. Hopkins, beloved mother and grandmother, was renowned for her good heart, gentle nature and her beautiful smile. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Frank Hopkins Sr.; her parents, Robert and Cecilia Wyland; three brothers, Robert Wyland, Howard Wyland and Frank Wyland; and two sisters, Cecilia Shelton and Lucy Bartos. She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Frank Jr. and June Hopkins, George Hopkins, Patrick Hopkins and Mike and Luanne Hopkins, all of Hughes Springs; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Nancy and Fred Winters of Hughes Springs, Mary and Larry Callas of Longview, Barbara Golden of Hughes Springs, Margaret and David Dobbs of Daingerfield, Maureen and Mike Raible of Kingsport, Tenn., and Teresa Hopkins of Longview; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Chester Byrd of Lone Star; brother-in-law, Aldoph Bartos of Tucson, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wyland of Dallas; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John R. Hopkins, Frank Eric Hopkins, Michael Hopkins II, Brian Dobbs, John Dobbs, Paul Golden and Robert Raible. Visitation will be this afternoon and evening, March 30, 2007, at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.reeder-davis.com.
