Bio

Irene Dodds Baillie, age 97, of Coleman, died Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, January 19, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kathy Monroe, First Presbyterian Church in Santa Anna, officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery, Coleman County, Texas. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. She was born Irene Dodds on May 5, 1920 in Runnels County, Texas, a daughter of Arthur V. Dodds and Eula Sparks Dodds. She grew up in Coleman County where she attended school at Glen Cove and graduated from Talpa High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University) and her Master of Science degree from Texas A & I in Kingsville. In 1989 she married Richard S. Baillie and he preceded her in death on November 15, 2014. Mrs. Baillie was an educator and counselor for many years. She lived in Alice, San Marcos, Austin, Lake Coleman, Marble Falls and moved to Coleman in 1999. She was a member of the Presbyterian church, as well as Delta Kappa Gamma and the Business and Professional Women Association (now Foundation). She is survived by a son, Larry Crowell and wife Patricia of Barnegat, New Jersey; daughter-in-law, Dianne Conn of Georgetown; two step-sons, Paul Baillie of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Steve Baillie of Abilene; three sisters, Nell Sackett of Abilene, Loice Kendrick Lacy of Haynesville, Louisiana and Tommye Becker of San Marcos; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Gerald Conn and Roger Crowell, and one brother, Rex Dodds. The family suggests memorials be made to Matthew 25 Ministries, P. O. Box 1003, Coleman, Texas 76834, in lieu of flowers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 6-7 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
