Bio

Juanita Douglas “Penny” Penland, age 92, of McKinney, Texas, passed away January 5, 2018. She was born February 9, 1925 to Frank P. Douglas, Sr. and Minnie (Moore) Douglas in Culleoka, Texas. On August 20, 1945, Penny married Morris Franklin Penland in Sherman, Texas. She was a 1947 graduate of McKinney Nursing School and spent her entire career as a Registered Nurse working in hospitals in McKinney but primarily at Wysong Clinic and later at Wysong Hospital. Penny loved to cook and dote on her grandkids. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her son, Marty Penland of Frisco, Texas; daughter, Roxa Joplin and husband Joe Joplin of McKinney, Texas; granddaughters, Joanna Joplin and husband Gustav Bahn of Richardson, Texas, Jena Weinstock and husband Matthew Weinstock of New Orleans, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Georgia Bahn and Ella Bahn of Richardson, Texas, Oliver Weinstock and Harper Weinstock of New Orleans, Louisiana; sister, Helen Johnson of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. She is also survived by two very beloved caregivers, Jessica Garcia and Yolanda Medrano. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Reliant Hospice Care, Jill, Najwa, and Chaplain Kelly. Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Frank P. and Minnie Douglas; husband, Morris Franklin Penland; brothers, Weldon Lemley, James Lemley, Carrol Moore Douglas and Frank P. Douglas, Jr. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway N., Allen, Texas 75013. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation, being held 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.
