Bio

Malinda is believed to have been Cherokee. Census Records indicate she was born about 1824. A marriage between Benjamin William Carter & Malinda Oakley, occurred 8 March 1835, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. She would have only been eleven or twelve when she married. Her first known child was not born until about 1842. She moved to Dallas County, Arkansas, sometime after 1850 and before 1860. She and her husband are listed on the 1860, 1870, & 1880 Census in Holly Springs, Dallas, Arkansas. The date of her death and place of burial is unknown, as well as her husbands. She was the mother of four known children.
