Bio
Benjamin Carter married Malinda Oakley, 8 March 1835, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. It is believed his wife was Cherokee. By her age on Census Records, she was born about 1824, which would have made her only about eleven or twelve years old. They are listed on the 1840 Census Records in Chatham County, and they had no children. The 1850 Census has them in Upper Regiment, Chatham County, North Carolina, with four children. The family moved to Dallas County between this Census and the 1860. They are listed in Holly Springs, Dallas, Arkansas for the the years 1860, 1870, & 1880. They both died after the 1880 and are presumed buried in an unmarked graves in Dallas County. The dates and place of burial are unknown.
