Bio

Tony A Shada, 96, of Kearney died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Home and Rehabilitation Center in Kearney. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Orthodox Church in Kearney. Father Christopher Morris will officiate. Burial with military rites provided by Kearney American Legion Post #52, Kearney V.F.W. Post # 759 and the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team will be at Kearney Cemetery. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements. Tony was born February 26, 1921 in Kearney to John and Helen (Karam) Shada. He grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1939. He worked with his father delivering produce from Texas to Nebraska. He then entered the U.S. Army where he served during WWII from 1942 – 1945 in the European Theatre. On June 6, 1954 he married Bessie Alberts of Gothenburg, NE. In 1947 he started working for the U.S. Postal Service where he was a carrier for both city and rural routes. He retired in 1979. Following his retirement from the postal service he worked at Oran’s Liquor Store, was a custodian at Kearney State College and drove cars for Midway Chevrolet. He was a member of St. George Orthodox Church in Kearney, Elks Lodge #984, American Legion Post #52, V.F.W. Post #759 and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with family, most importantly his grandchildren. His favorite time of year was attending the annual Shada Reunion. Tony never met a stranger, he could carry on a conversation with anyone he came in contact with. Surviving relatives include his wife Bessie of Kearney; daughters, Cindy Burns and husband Timothy of Omaha, Toni Jackson and husband Scott of Kearney, Mary Rivett and husband Austin of Waterloo, NE; sons, David Shada and wife Jill of Lincoln and Gary Shada and wife Deadra of Pierce, NE; sister, Victoria Applegarth of Kearney, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Nick, George, Leo, Victor and John Shada; sisters Norma Shada, Mabel McCauley, Josephine Wetzig and Maxine Greever and infant daughter Suzanne
