Heaven now has a new angel, Dorothy (Dottie) Beran Wilkinson, age 87, who passed away peacefully in Austin on December 9, 2017 surrounded by her family. Dottie was born and raised in Caldwell, Texas where she was valedictorian at Caldwell High School. She was salutatorian at Blinn College where she was also a member of Alpha Phi social sorority and a cheerleader. Dottie began her career working for Texas Attorney General John Ben Sheppard, then Texas Governor Preston Smith. She moved to Washington DC as a young adult and worked for the House of Representatives and Senate, followed by the Association of American Railroads. Dottie returned to Austin was employed by the State Securities Board as Executive Assistant to the State Securities Commissioner until her retirement in 1990. Dottie was a true Texas lady and named "The Honorary Yellow Rose of Texas" by former Texas Governor Preston Smith. She had a heart of gold and was always there to mend a broken wing or heart. Dottie loved animals, especially cats and birds. She was also a gifted horticulturist and spent many hours enjoying her many beautiful flowers and plants with her husband Joe. Her nurturing ways and warm personality endeared her to many. But her most precious moments were spent sharing time with her beloved husband, Joe, and their sweet cat, Penny. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Joseph (Joe) Manley Wilkinson, her mother Julia Veronica Polansky Beran, her father Emanuel W. Beran, and her brothers Edwin E. Beran and James F. Beran. Dottie is survived by her nephew Paul Christopher Beran and his wife Charlotte, her niece Julie Beth Williams and her husband Marshal Kushniruk, her step-son, Joseph S. Wilkinson and wife, Gretta and their children Helen and Thomas, and her Godaughter and 2nd cousin Anna Kornelia "Missy" Vykukal Leathers and her husband Randy, as well as many friends. The family would like to thank all those who have shown such kindness and support during the time since Joe's passing and leading up to Dottie's passing. Dottie's ashes will be buried at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in Caldwell, TX beside her brother Jim and her parents. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the stjude.org 800.395.1087, Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving, TX 972.438.2212, or the National Museum of the Pacific War, 340 E.
