Bio
Edwin E. “Ed” Kokes, 82, of Grand Island passed away on Sept. 25, 2017, at Wedgewood Care Center. Memorial Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ron Krause will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hastings. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Ed was born on April 1, 1935, in Sargent, son of Edward and Lena (Dilsaver) Kokes. Ed grew up on a farm near Sargent and graduated from Taylor High School, class of 1953. He enlisted in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He married Ardith Troester in June 1962. Ed owned and operated Independent Testing Labs and retired in 1987. He also worked for Agra Star Soil Testing and worked as a home builder. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and former president of Grand Island Home Builders Association. He enjoyed woodworking, testing new gadgets and watching TV, especially the Food Network. He is survived by his children, Dennis Brown of Minnesota, Charlotte Kluever of Iowa and Susan Tischner of Alaska, and a daughter-in-law, Carol Brown of Wisconsin. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Larry Kokes; and two sons, David and Dale.
