Betty Hecker, 86, of Seward, Nebraska, died Sunday, December 10, 2017, at the Memorial Hospital in Seward, Nebraska. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Brandon Foster officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial or Staching Through The Snow of David City. Betty Lou Hecker was born October 7, 1931, in Columbus, Nebraska, to George and Ethel (Rice) Louis. She was very proud to be the Great Granddaughter of one of Columbus’ founding fathers – Jacob Louis. Betty graduated from Kramer High School and worked at Consumer Public Power prior her marriage to Erwin Hecker on January 19, 1951. Betty enjoyed watching sports, embroidering, was an avid reader, and spending time attending her grandchildrens’ events. She was a member of the “Betty’s Group”, and Trinity Lutheran Church where she did volunteer work. Betty is survived by: Daughter - Peggy (Mike) Reese of Seward, NE Son - Steve Hecker of Norfolk, NE Son – Mike (Jeanie) Hecker of Seward, NE 12 Grandchildren 17 Great Grandchildren Sister – Darlene Mueller of Hudson, IL Sister – Carolee McDermitt of Lincoln, NE Brother-in-law – Bill Bryant of Indianola, IA Betty was preceded in death by: Parents – George and Ethel Louis Husband – Erwin Hecker Son – Mark Hecker Sister – Mary Jane Bryant Brothers-in-law – Don Mueller and Gary McDermitt
