From The Ely Times (NV) - Wednesday, November 11, 2009: Dorothy Ann Christiansen died Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the White Pine Care Center. Dorothy was born September 3, 1917 in Milford, Utah, the second daughter of Jack and Pearl Thiessen. Her older sister died at age two leaving Dorothy the oldest of four older brothers, Jack, Bruce, Bill and Howard Thiessen and a sister, Margaret. She is survived by her younger sister Margaret (Bill) Hogan of McGill. Dorothy lived in Milford, Utah until 1929 when she moved with her family to Ely. At that time she was in the seventh grade. She graduated from Ely Grade School, and in 1935 she graduated from White Pine County High School. She was the first Junior Prom Queen of White Pine County High School. During the summer after graduation from high school she worked in a flower and candy shop in Ely which is where she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Christiansen who was working for the summer with his brother in Ely to earn enough money to return to Utah State University. On December 12, 1936 Dorothy and Bob were married in Eureka, Nevada. They were married for 66 years before the death of her husband. After their marriage they remained in Ely for the rest of their lives. Her husband, Bob died in May 2002. Dorothy and Bob raised four children in Ely. She is survived by her son, Jack (Dee) Christiansen, Ely, Robert (Valerie) Christiansen, Las Vegas, and Peter (Nora) Christiansen, Las Vegas. Her daughter, Patricia Christiansen who lived in Ely died in July 2009. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who love their "Grandma Dot," and a number of nieces and nephews who love their "Aunt Dot." Dorothy was a housewife, mother and grandmother all of her adult life, and she excelled in all three of these. She was an accomplished bridge player, and played with numerous bridge clubs through the years. These ladies who played in these clubs were amoung her best friends. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held at the Mountain Vista Chapel on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
