Richard E. Anstine, 80, of Kearney, died Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at CHI Health – Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial with military rites will take place at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Richard Earl Anstine was born at the Kearney Good Samaritan Hospital on February 24th, 1937 to Earl and Bonita (Nelson) Anstine. Richard grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School (Long Fellow School). He met Barbara Parker while in High School and they were married for 19 years. After graduation Richard served in the Navy for 4 Years and was stationed in Texas where he attained the rank of AG2, Aerographer’s Mate Petty Officer 2nd Class. While in the Navy his daughter Pamela and son Richard were born. Richard earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Correction Administration at Michigan State University. After graduating from the MSU he worked for the Oregon State Board of Control and as a counselor at the Federal Penitentiary at McNeal Island in Washington State. Richard eventually returned to his home state of Nebraska and worked as a probation officer, EMT, and fireman. It was in Kearney that he met and married Elaine (Kosmicki). They were married December 24th, 1982. He retired from working at the Gibbon Turkey Plant after nearly 20 years. Richard is survived by his wife, Elaine of Kearney; son, Richard Anstine, Jr. of Eugene, Oregon; daughter, Pamela Anstine of Albuquerque, NM; step-sons, Joseph (Becky) Lucas and Jerry Lucas all of Kearney, John (Marcy) Lucas and Jim (Benigna) Lucas all of Cozad, Jeff (Lisa) Lucas of Fort Collins, CO; step-daughter, Jackie and Ron Doggett of Central City, NE; sister, Marsha and her husband Larry Trampe of Livermore, CO; brother John Anstine of Council Bluffs, Iowa as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
