Bio

Eva J. Young May 10,1927-October 8,2012 Eva J. Young, 85, of Decatur passed away Oct. 8, 2012, at her daughter’s residence in Sioux City. Per her wishes, the body was cremated. Private family services will be held. Eva was born on May 10, 1927, in Walthill, Neb., the daughter of Lonnie and Artie Lee (Deckerd) Nunn. She had 11 brothers and sisters, Robert Henry, Orange Ivan Leslie, Dorothy, Lela Rose, Margie Gladys Mae, Marvin Cecil, Raymond Edward, Jack, Ella, Paul Ray and Joann. Eva was the eighth child born to this union. She quit school in the 9th grade to stay home and help her mother with the younger children so she could work out of the home. At the age of 19, she married Pat Young, also of Walthill. They were married on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 1946. To this union, four children were born. The family lived in Sioux City, Omaha, and other various towns throughout their lives as Pat worked construction most of his life. In 1982 when Pat retired, they built their home north of Decatur and opened a business called EJ Young Salvage, which they ran for years until age and health caused them to close it. They also had a thrift store for years in Decatur. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, who meant everything to her. Her favorite past times were crosswords, puzzles, solitaire, fishing and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all. She was a very special lady with a very big heart; her family meant everything to her. She was not just a mother, but also a friend. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pat; nine siblings; and a son, Eddy Ray.
