Alfred Eugene Holbrook Alfred Eugene Holbrook, age 83, of Bristol, TN passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2013. Arrangements are incomplete. Arrangements are being made with Weaver Funeral Home and Cremation Services. ∼ Alfred E. "Al" Holbrook, 83, of Bristol, Tenn., passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, July 24, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Al was born in St. Paul, Va., to the late Guy and Georgia Meade Holbrook. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Al served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and achieved the rank of his staff sergeant. He then returned to the states and moved to Ohio where he and his wife Mary helped to charter the Whitehall Church of Christ. In 1959 Al moved his family to the Bristol area where he pursued a vocation in automobile mechanics. He enjoyed success as a small business owner, operating Al's Amoco on State Street and the Volunteer Parkway for many years, and building many lifelong friendships with his customers. Al enjoyed woodworking, and closely followed the Ohio State Buckeyes and Atlanta Braves. Al's greatest passion was loving God and loving others which led to a lifetime of service in the local church. He was a Sunday School teacher, and served as an elder for many years at West Hills Christian Church. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Campbell Holbrook, who has served and cared for Al selflessly for the duration of his illness of the last 21 years; daughters, Joyce Bell and husband, Bob, of Franklin, Tenn., Peggy Glover and husband, Chip, of Bristol, Tenn., Beth Cox and husband, Daryl, of Bluff City, Tenn. Additionally, Al is survived by grandchildren, Jon Bell, Michael Bell, Tyler Glover and wife, Emily, Nate Glover, Andrew Cox, Aja Cox Hicks and husband, Matt. Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at West Hills Christian Church with Dr. Gary Knapp officiating. Committal service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of West Hills Christian Church. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 until 6:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Online condolences may be registered at www.Weaverfuneralhome.net. In lieu of flowers memorials will be made to the missions committee at West Hills Christian Church, 116 Elm Street, Bristol, Tenn. The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. John Green for his many years of care. Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
